This
view shows you the entire route to be followed from the Uji Bridge to the
Main Sanctuary, about half a mile, winding through the trees. The first
stop is the short detour to the left down to the bank of the river to the
place known as the Mitarashi, which literally means "the sacred washing
of hands."
