Japanese Terms: Hôryûji Temple
 

Prince Shôtoku (573-621 AD).  The posthumous name of the imperial prince Mumayado, son of the Emperor Yômei.  He served as regent under Empress Suiko (592-628 AD).

Shaka.  The Japanese pronunciation of Shakamuni (563-483 BC), the historical Buddha.

Amida.  (Sanskrit, Amitaba.)  The Buddha of the Western Paradise, or "Pure Land," known for his (in Japan, partially her) compassion.

Kannon.  (Akskrit, Avalokitesvara.)  A bodhisattva attendant of Amida, widely worshipped in Asia as a saving deity.
