Picasso in the Park
A Picasso's sculpture sits at the middle of University Plaza. The identity of this young girl remains a mystery to me until i started researching on the Web. She is Sylvette, a young French girl who Picasso had met at a little town called Vallauris in southern France. She appears in more than 40 of Picasso's work. These two became friends and she revealed her wishes to be an artist. Picasso encouraged her pursuit, and gave her one of his paintings. Sylvette sold his work and used that money to attend an art school in Paris. Today, Lydia Corbett, aka Sylvette, is also an established artist. Her story with Picasso is now a children's book called "Picasso and the Girl with the Ponytail."
