MTV @ Brooklyn Tech

I thought this was pretty funny (by way of Katie). To be honest, of the three specialized high schools, Brooklyn Tech is the best candidate for a reality show. You know, most of those kids aren't busy studying for AP exams or getting into good colleges, so they have plenty of time to look awkward on camera.

The comments are really cute. This was my favorite one: "The student body is 90 percent Asian, not exactly a shining example of diversity. Seriously, it's true. Also, they're not that "street-savvy", they're nerds. Granted, bottom-end nerds, as Brooklyn Tech was always the consolation prize for the kids not gifted enough to get into Stuy or Bronx Sci."

Bruce Schneier doesn't need a key logger. He's standing right behind you.

Sorry, I just noticed these.

Wow, you're a loser.

Being a proud bklyn tech alum... who did get into a good college, where people actually get taught by profs not TA's, I think that you will learn a great deal from the new MTV show about one of the best HS's in the country.

Granted tech kids are pretty dorky, but when you consider the amount of diversity that we have, in both wealth and ethnic backgrounds, what would be a better place to start a new reality series? The fact of the matter is that most people at Tech are smart enough to go to Bx Sci and even if they were rejected from Stuy, which they prob were, they most likely would've hated the homogenous atmosphere of a 70% asian HS where people round off their GPA's to the nearest ten thousandth of a point.

I loved my Tech experience, and I loved my childhood growing up in Brooklyn even more. In a nutshell... the message that I'd like to pass on to you is...
DON'T BE JEALOUS BECAUSE YOUR HS SUCKED AND YOUR COLLEGE SUCKS EVEN MORE.

Great Libel material there.

Obviously you have angst against a school you never even attended.

As an Alumna of Tech I have to say, though you may be a Columbia alumna, this angst is completely misplaced for your age. I thought IV league schools produced better students than non-IV league ones? How is that you have yet to mature?

As an Assistant Director of an Education department in Columbia, this is really dissapointing.

Tech boasts yearly a student body population of roughly 4500-5000. Many students work, and study for AP's, do pre-college experience programs, are in school from 8-4 PM, and still find time to be normal teenagers.

Many students from our schools have gone on to Universities like UPENN, especially with my graduating class of 2003, we had roughly 20 students alone accepted there. Half of which had full scholarships, not because of atheletic ability, but because of
academic ability. Schools like Carnegie Mellon ( one fellow alum is a SIFE(students in free enterprise) national winner and now a Morgan and Stanley, three year running intern and he hasn't even graduated yet.), Princeton, Harvard, MIT, SophieDavis, RIT (personally came down to recruit one of our classmates during our senior year).

You say that the school is practically all asian students and that we are of bottom grade intelligence. Honestly, where are your internet skills if you cannot even look up the demographics to our school on the NYS education website? Its 30% asian, 27% white, 18% african american, and the rest are mixed. We're of mixed backgrounds, ideas, and perceptions. The city choir of new york had 5 Tech high school students participating when I graduated. Our school music cirriculum has some of the most dedicated teachers, that have made some of the most dramatic impacts in our lives. Even some of our cheerleaders go on to schools like NJIT.

WE represent NYC. There is no racial barrier here.

If anything, you should be sad that you never got the chance to attend Tech, perhaps you would've been able to deal with this whole MTV thing better then.

A picture is worth a thousand words, is it not? Perhaps the new show from MTV, staring Tech will shed some light on your ignorance.
Ignorance because lack of knowledge can be corrected, but stupidity is something you refuse to correct.

I would like to say as a tech student that your critizism is completely bias and has not a single shred of factual basis. Your obviously not a Tech student because if you had been one your experience there would been at least remotely enjoyable. To denounce an institution that you have not attended nor visited shows how intelligent you truly are
and ; furthermore, brings shame to the IV diploma that you seem to hold as a mark of your intellect.

Irina, don't hate on tech. you didn't go there so you don't know what you are talking about. plenty of people from tech go on to great colleges and mostly every student takes AP courses. sure, we are a bit nerdy, but tech as a consolation prize? please. many people get into the other schools but still choose tech. a brooklyn tech education is a great thing. it prepared me for college really well. i don't know where you are getting your info about tech, but don't criticize something you know nothing about.
