Rick McGuire from IBM will be discussing Object Rexx, a new version of the Rexx scripting language that is currently under development. Object Rexx transforms the existing Rexx language from a string-oriented, procedural language into a completely object-oriented, multi-threading language. Rick will cover the highlights of the language additions, the Rexx object model, concurrency, and interoperability with foreign object models such as SOM, DSOM, and OpenDoc. Also discussed will be the issues faced with radically changing the nature of a language will still maintaining backward compatibility.
Rick McGuire is the lead architect and developer for IBM's Object REXX implementations, based in Endicott, NY.
