Charney Vladek's Partisans' song `ikh vil nit keyn ayzerne keytn'. (Vol 14.049) Elye Palevski gave us a quick translation the song. A few marginal notes/questions on his translation. di knekhtshaft iz mies un biter zi meg zayn di gothayt aleyn Servitude is ugly and bitter May it (servitude) be the divinity itself. Refoyl Finkel 5)---------------------------------------------------- Date: May 9, 2005 Subject: yidish! tayere Mendelistn, if you read Refoyl Finkel's post on your browser--and we have every reason to believe that you were able to--it means that Mendele will finally, on the eve of its 14th birthday, be able to do what many subscribers have asked for since the beginning: yidish mit yidishe oysyes. We hope and anticipate many more Mendelists will send us such posts. We also anticipate an even larger volume of requests for technical information. The posts, if they deal with Yiddish language or literature, will be run in our pages; the technical questions will _not_ be run. The reason for the latter rule is that there already exists a list: UYIP (http://www.uyip.org/) which is exclusively devoted to matters of Yiddish computing. Many of its members (Mendelistn for the most part) are skilled and knowledgable. Questions sent to UYIP (you first have to subscribe but it's free) are normally answered quickly and authoritatively. We hope you like what you see. If you have any comments, please write directly to the moderators using the appropriate button below.
