Africa’s media landscape is much richer than an Internet search would suggest.  Many publications lack resources for websites and have not been digitized, while relatively few broadcast outlets are equipped for web-streamed audio and video.  Still, a growing number of print and broadcast ventures have established a presence on the web.

 

The following is my attempt to begin a comprehensive collection of sites regarding African media on the web.  I strongly welcome suggestions for additions.

        Observatoire sur les Systèmes d’Information, les Réseaux et les Inforoutes au Sénégal (OSIRIS):  Frequently updated news on all aspects of the telecommunications situation and media environment of Sénégal. 

         Agence de Régulations des Télécommunications et des Postes du Sénégal (ARTP): Responsible for regulating telecommunications in Sénégal. 

 

Africa (general)

         Initiative for Mobile Training of Community Radio (Informotrac): Information on a number of radios communautaires in Sénégal, as well as on similar ventures across West and Central Africa.

        Institut PANOS Afrique de l’Ouest/PANOS Institute of West Africa (Dakar):  PANOS is active throughout West Africa, conducting important work on monitoring media environments and disseminating related information, through publications and on the Internet.
