Due: Wednesday, October 15
The scenario:
Dr. Blank's thoughts were on the fresh salmon he was planning to
broil for dinner, but there was one last patient he had to see
first. "So, Miyanda, what can I do for you
today?" he asked. She had hurriedly entered the
examination room, dropping her take-out bag of hamburgers, fries, and
milkshake in her excitement. "I finally discovered why I've
been gaining so much weight and having such horrible PMS," she
said excitedly, retrieving a crumpled printout of a web page.
"Do you think this progesterone cream would help restore my
hormone balance?"
Dr. Blank looked through the essay, Estrogen
Dominance Syndrome. Sure enough, weight gain and PMS were
associated with this syndrome.
"I'll be honest with you," he said. "I don't
think this syndrome was covered in my physiology courses in medical
school, and it'll take me a bit of time to learn about it. How
about we make another appointment for tomorrow, and by then I'll have
had a chance to read up on it. No charge for today's
visit."
As Miyanda left, Dr. Blank turned to
you, the youngest member of the medical practice, and said, "Find
out if there's any reliable research on this syndrome, will you?
I'd do it myself, but I've got to entertain an important visitor from Salmo
salar for dinner."
Your assignment:
