James Tamerius is a Earth Institute postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at Columbia University. Broadly, he investigates environmental determinants of human health. He focuses on the relationship between climate and the seasonal transmission of respiratory diseases such as influenza. He is involved in a project that aims to measure the seasonal presence of airborne viruses and bacteria in public spaces and emergency rooms across NYC. In addition, he recently has begun researching the effect of outdoor environmental conditions on the indoor environment to better specify links between environmental exposure and human health.
