Columbia Hand (September 2012 - Present) >>>More details This Hand was made and designed by Robotics Lab of Professor Allen's at Columbia University. This is a highly underactuated hand, which means the three fingers are all actuated by one motor. There are three piezoresistive films and 3 potentiometers on each finger. And we have an extra motor for a rotational thumb. I am working on this hand with an undergraduate student since the beginning of this semester. I am responsible for sensor application, signal processing and motor controlling. Additionally, I assist my partner with mechanism design of a new Columbia Hand with more effective and stable grasping. |

Harvard Hand (September 2012 - Present) >>>More details This Hand was sent from Harvard University to Robotics Lab at Columbia. This is a highly adaptive SDM hand with 2 very sensitive dynamic force sensors for each finger. Each finger has a soft fingerpad to maximize friction and contact area, which makes the grasping more stable. I have finished testing the sensors on this hand, and I got very good signal. I also succeeded to control the motor for the movement of the hand. What I am trying to do now is to put the hand on the arm so that we can do some grasping experiments. |

conveyor Belt Correction System for China Shenhua Group (August 2010 - June 2011) For this project, we aimed to create a correction system for a 100-meter long steel conveyor belt working in a high-temperature environment. The high temperature will cause great deformation of belt and change its weight distribution, which leads to a big deviation of the belt. The deviated belt is very easy to be damaged. In this project, I was responsible for the control system. I chose Siemens PLC S7-200 as the controller, created the program for PLC and designed the electrical system. Additionally, We also invented a displacement sensor specially for the conveyor belt. |

Map Digitalization & Data Extraction(May 2012 - Present) I have been working in the EDS Room in Lehman Library at Columbia University since May 2012. I have digitalized two sets of maps by ArcGIS. One is 1873 Bronx and the other is 1903 Bronx. Besides, I worked on data extraction of useful information from the XML files. I programmed in Python and use the modulus called Beatifulsoup. I am still working on the maps now, we will soon finish the whole set of map of Bronx 1873. After that, we will do 3D simulation of the maps, which is really cool. |

Freescale Smartcar Competition(July 2010 - December 2010) I participated this competition when I was a sophomore. The competition is very meaningful to me, because it led me to studying embedded system and Robotics. I was focused on sensors and signal processing at that time. We used Freescale MCU to control the car. I was also responsible for the program in signal processing. Besides, I assisted my teammate on circuits design and control method. The ultimate goal is to make the car run as fast as it can, and meanwhile follow the path all the time. Finally, we got the 3rd prize in Chian Eastern Divide. |

MEMS Project on Nano Zipper(November 2011- December 2011) This was the final project for MEMS class. I started this project with 3 teammates. I simulated this nano zipper by COMSOL and we also used COMSOL to analyze the mechanical, dynamical and thermal properties of the nano zipper. We also calculated the eigenfrequency of the zipper and compared the theoretical one with the one we got from simulation of COMSOL. It was very interesting to see the damping phenomenon of the nano zipper. The two beams could damp in the same direction or different ones. The nano zipper can be used as an actuator and sensor. |
