SUMMARY OF RESULTS FROM SEQUENTIAL PRESENTATION OF FACES

Note: For section III of Written Assignment One, you need only use the 1999 data. Many of you should simply circle the 1999 data and ignore the rest as it may just confuse you. However, some of you may find it interesting to see how the results vary (or don't vary) from year to year and you might even want to comment on that in your essay for the Written Assignment. (Incidentally, the experiment was run with transparencies rather than the computer in 1995-1997 so differed in many details but was generally the same.).

The entry in each cell is the number of people who fell into the category described by the table and row and column labels. For example, in 1999, there were 37 righthanded people who said "No" to question 1 (and therefore said Tom was happier) out of a total of 152 right-handed people. Unfortunately we didn't get enough answers about gender in 1999 to include that in this data summary. And we hadn't asked it in previous years.

If you have more questions about this table, please come to Q&A sessions or office hours (see handout #3).
