Feb - 15 - 2003 MASS MOBILIZATION AND NIGHTTIME STUDENT EVENT IN NYC!!! As a complement to the national march being organized in New York City by United for Peace and Justice, there will also be a student/youth event at 8:00 pm at Columbia University on the night of the 15th. The National Campus Antiwar Network and United for Peace and Justice have endorsed the event, and it is being hosted by the Columbia University Antiwar Coalition. Current confirmed speakers include among others former weapons inspector Scott Ritter, Dalia Hashad of the ACLU, Michael Letwin of New York Labor Against the War, Amy Goodman from WBAI, and Anthony Arnove, editor of Iraq Under Siege. Confirmed performers include Welfare Poets and also spoken word artists from Def Poetry Jam. In addition to speakers and music we will also have refreshments and tables for groups to share information. The location is Barnard Hall at 3001 Broadway Avenue, at 117th street. There will be a $5 suggested donation, the proceeds of which will be used to provide transportation for tri-state-area students to a national student anti-war conference in Chicago on February 22-23. Housing will be available for people who will need to stay in the city overnight; for further information on requesting housing, or if you are able to provide it, please email the housing committee at studenthousing0215@yahoo.com. Due to space limitations, those who wish to insure admittance are strongly advised to email Sarah Jane Schmidt at studenttickets0215@yahoo.com to reserve seats. We request that local antiwar organizers handle that and then send her one email with a list of names instead of hundreds of individual emails! Also anyone who can be at Columbia early (around 5pm) to volunteer would be much appreciated. If you wish to volunteer, contact studentvolunteers@yahoo.com. In addition, any groups that have banners are invited to bring them to be hung around the outside of the event as a show of solidarity. This event should provide a great way for students/youth to make connections and share ideas, and we hope that as well as being a fun night that it will also provide a boost to the movement. Jan - 18 - 2003 ANSWER Rally, Washington D.C. CAN will be running busees to D.C. for this rally.
