Network Operations Center: The Morningside network and the
University's Internet connections are currently supported on-site
only on weekdays.
Network Systems staff is fully occupied with operation, maintenance,
design, and deployment during "normal business hours."
This covers about 50 hours of the week. The remaining 118 "off"
hours are supported by an on-call rotation of the same staff. The
potential delays in response on nights and weekends are unacceptable
as the University's online services are used twenty-four hours a day
from around the world. A full-time, 7x24 network operations center
should be established to provide immediate diagnosis and dispatch
services at a level appropriate to the network's importance in our
educational, research and business life.
