Assess for Physical and Sensory Barriers

Determine whether the patient has any physical or sensory barriers that affect the patient's ability to learn or change the way it should be taught. For example: the sight or hearing impaired patient, a patient with rheumatoid arthritis or a CVA patient with hemiplegia.

Assess the patient's support system and determine who may need to be included in the learning of the skill.

Assess the need to obtain assistive devices or special resources for the patient
