| Many moons ago, I was an undergraduate psychology major at Carleton College . I went on to graduate school in clinical psychology to study with Dr. Beverly Greene at St. John's University. My research focus centered on cultural constructions of mental illness, the cultural context of clinical practice, and African-centered psychology. My clinical focus was children and adolescents, and I did my training at several large hospitals in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Throughout, I was struck by the number of families that were burdened with chronic illnesses, and as I finished graduate school, my interests had begun to shift to African American health in general (as opposed to solely mental health). Before coming to Columbia, I did postdoctoral training in cancer prevention and control at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. |
