Mission Statement

The American Pledge is an organization dedicated to the principle of inclusion and respect for all people. Its goal is to educate the public about homosexuality, dispel myths, help overcome fears and foster consideration and respect for people of all sexual orientations. The health and well-being of gay, lesbian and bisexual youth will be given primary attention.

The logo of The American Pledge underscores the fact that rights for gay citizens are intrinsically tied to our historical ideals, commitments and values. The organization seeks to encourage gay and heterosexual citizens and gay/lesbian/bisexual groups, no matter how divergent their philosophies, to demonstrate support for these American principles by displaying the logo. The American Pledge will make available items bearing the graphic (such as pins, stickers, decals, keychains, T-shirts), and other non-profit groups will be welcome to sell items to raise funds to support their goals or give them away to supporters.

The organization is non-profit and run by volunteers. Monies will be collected through donations.

Funds will be used to produce items bearing the logo with the goal of increasing public awareness, understanding and acceptance of men and women with homosexual and bisexual orientations.

Monies over and above that needed for expenses will be used to fund educational and supportive activities such as lectures, meetings, assemblies, courses, outreach programs and research.

The Symbol

This symbol, entitled The American Dream, combines symbols of the gay rights movement with symbols of America: the inverted triangle; rainbow flag; Statue of Liberty; and Pledge of Allegiance.
