A very important part of the class is
the
network exercise. Professional networks contribute to many key
outcomes
such as finding a good job and achieving promotions and bonuses.
The goal of the exercise is to give you concrete tools do build a
network
which will generate these benefits for you.
| Exercise | Date Distributed | Date Due | Mode of Distribution / Return |
| Professional Network Instrument You'll complete a survey describing your own professional network. Who helps you professionally, how do you know them, and how do the members of your network know each other? You'll get a written analysis of your network to help you in class and professionally. |

The survey is an excel file. Download it from the course web-page, save with your name (e.g., paul_ingram_net.xls), complete, and send it to me on theMYGSB system ((go to “Course Files” and choose the “Post Files” option. Attach your file, and choose Paul Ingram under “post this file to.” You won’t receive a receipt from MYGSB, but I’ll be able to read the file (and no one else will). I need it by February 12 to prepare feedback for you to use in the February 17 class. |
| Network Workbook Based on your professional-network instrument, you'll receive diagrams of your network as well as a workbook that describes your network, and prompts you to think about how you might change it to better serve your professional goals. Your job will be to answer the questions in the workbook, and engage in peer consulting with a classmate (90 minutes on your network, 30 minutes on theirs). |

On August 9 you'll return the hardcopy of the network workbook, having answered the questions about your network and provided evidence of peer consulting. We'll grade this, looking to see that you effectively applied network concepts from class, cases and readings to your own professional network. |
