Outcropping Methane Gas Hydrates and Methane Seeps

Introduction

In certain areas of the world, conditions exist to allow gas hydrates to outcrop at the seafloor or to create methane vents rising from the sediment.  These areas support unique ecosystems where chemoautotrophic bacteria support extensive macrofaunal communities, that have only recent been discovered and explored.
