| Little is known. However, measurements of sulfate indicates that it was very abundant and did not represent a limiting factor (Parkes et al. 2000). Weilen et al. (2005) cite sulfate reduction, methanogenesis, and heterotrphic activity generate energy for the organisms. |

Like the geochemistry of each basin,
the communities of each
basis was found to be unique (der Wielen et
al.
2005). No macroorganisms were reported,
only microbes. So far, only bacteria and
archaea have been found in the hypersaline basins. van Wielen et al. (2005) report that in all basin,
a mix of archaea and bacteria diversity was found. In all four
basins bacterial
diversity outweighed archaea diversity (van Wielen et al.2005). |
