Sajjad Moazeni

Post-Doctoral Research Scientist

Currently, I am a post-doctoral research scientist in Bioelectronic Systems Lab working with Prof. Ken Shepard at Columbia University. My research lies in the intersection of integrated system design and optoelectronics with applications in neuroscience and cell biology. Prior to joining Columbia, I received my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from UC Berkeley in Summer 2018, where I was advised by Prof. Vladimir Stojanović. I received my B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2013.

During my Ph.D. I worked on designing and implementing large-scale and energy-efficient integrated systems with applications ranging from computation and communication to sensing and imaging by merging state-of-the-art electronics with photonics and other emerging technologies. I focused on improving the energy-efficiency of large-scale data centers and supercomputers by creating faster and more energy-efficient data networks based on silicon-photonic interconnects and switches. We demonstrated the first bulk CMOS silicon photonics platform in a commercial 300mm wafer foundry (Nature, April 2018), a photonic transmitter achieving record energy-efficiency and bandwidth density, and a micro-second optical switching network with world's first processor with integrated photonic I/O.

My research interests are in integration technologies and system design for emerging devices, integrated photonics, neurophotonics and optogenetics, and analog/mixed-signal integrated circuits. I spent Summer 2015 at Oracle America, Inc. as an intern in the mixed-signal design group. As a part of Center for Energy-Efficient Electronics Science (E3S) undergraduate research programs, I supervised undergraduate students during summer 2017. I was a member of Berkeley Wireless Research Center (BWRC) and Marvell Nanofabrication Laboratory from 2013 to 2018.
