INTRODUCTION The GENED list was created to provide discussion of Gender and Education, with particular emphasis on K-12 education. The gened list is part of the follow-up from the conference, "Gender in a Coed World: Issues for Schools and Families," hosted by The Park School of Baltimore on March 30 - April 1, 1995. The conference was sponsored by The Center for Contemporary Education at The Park School, in association with the Women's Studies Program of Duke University and with Duke University's Department of Psychology: Social and Health Sciences. This mailing list is hosted on acpub.duke.edu at Duke University. This mailing list was designed for K-12 teachers, interested parents, university researchers, and other educators and professionals. Our hope is that the list will encourage continuing discussion of the issues raised in the March/April 1995 conference. Thus, discussion here may address such topics as gender issues for schools; gender equity; gender issues in K-12 curriculum; gender as an element of development and growth; gender and health; gender issues in science, mathematics, and technology education; construction, in school and home, of gender identity and gender roles; and similar topics. We hope the list will provide a useful forum for sharing perspectives on these issues among teachers, parents, researchers, and other educators; a forum for those looking for information, ideas, and resources; and a place to announce future programs and activities which address gender and school issues. There are other publications being developed from the conference, "Gender in a Coed World," and these will also be announced here as they become available. The gened list is an open list.
