From ATG2G@ASUACAD.BITNETSat Sep 23 16:44:45 1995 Date: Sat, 5 Aug 1995 08:26:17 MST From: Gene Glass Reply to: "American Educational Research Association List (AERA)" To: Multiple recipients of list AERA Subject: PUBLICATION> "Random Thoughts" The June 30th issue of the _Chronicle of Higher Education_ featured a new book about teaching written by Louis Schmier entitled, _Random Thoughts: The Humanity of Teaching_. It's published by Magna Publications opf Madison, Wis. and can be ordered by calling 800-433-0499. If you are in a place where the 800 number is not operable, you can call 608-246-3580 The book is a collection of the first 67 of the 99 e-mail postings called "Random Thoughts " which Louis has been writing for over two years. If you're not familiar with his reflective essays on all aspects of teaching, as one colleague commented, they are poignant and important. The issues that Louis raises about reaching every student individually are essential reading for anyone who wants to be, or is becoming a teacher. Louis approaches teaching from a perspective quite different from the mere mechanics of pedagogy; and I think that perspective is an important accompaniment to technical pedagogical understanding.
