Bragg Congress first passed the Tech Prep Education Act in 1990. Since then, educators, employers, and students have generated enormous enthusiasm for the new educational approach. However, as Congress considers Tech Prep's future, members will want to know whether real progress is being made. Is Tech Prep delivering on its promises? This article, which was originally published in Vocational Education Journal, April 1995, contends that the purpose of Tech Prep has expanded beyond what could only have been envisioned a decade ago. However, despite very real progress, some major challenges remain. This paper outlines both challenges and accomplishments of Tech Prep to date.
