USENET NEWSGROUPS / NETNEWS
There are two ways to read newsgroups. With pine, see the folder-
collection Usenet Newsgroups, and look at articles in the newsgroup
cu.pine for descriptions of how to do the rest.
A more fully-featured, but harder to learn, way is "trn" or "rn",
variants of the same newsreading command. "trn" threads articles
(groups by subject line) while "rn" does not. Start either, and type
"g" followed by the name of a newsgroup to subscribe to that group.
It will remember which groups you are subscribed to, and which articles
you have seen. Type "u" to unsubscribe. Type "h" at any point for
online help.
Groups starting "clari" are the ClariNet electronic newspaper based
on the UPI newswire. Some groups, including all those starting "bit",
contain the same material as BITNET or Internet mailing lists.
alt.fan.serdar-argic All about Armenia, Turkey, genocide, and robot-posting.
clari.world.mideast.turkey
soc.culture.turkish Discussion about things Turkish.
LISTSERV MAILING LISTS
In general, subscribe by sending mail to listserv@host, with the message
"sub listname Your Name"-- where "host" is the address given, "listname"
is the name of the list, and "Your Name" is your real name (not computer id).
(In this section, hosts are shown as Bitnet node names; many of the same
hosts also have Internet addresses that may be shown in the next section.)
Example: Fred Fumbler subscribes to the DIAPERS list at CUNYVM by
addressing mail to listserv@cunyvm.bitnet, with the message: sub diapers
Fred Fumbler. The listserv will mail back a confirmation message.
