WELCOME TO THE 2nd WORKSHOP ON THE FUTURE OF MIR

=========================

f(MIR) 2010 is over, it was a great success, thanks to everyone who participated / attended!
=========================

The program is out, take a look here!

Organized as a parallel session of the ISMIR conference, this meeting is solely organized by students. The goal of this workshop is to discuss what would likely be MIR research in 10, 20, or even 50 years!

We aim at presenting roughly 5 papers. EVERYONE CAN SUBMIT, NOT ONLY STUDENTS! In particular, you do not need to have a student co-author on your submission.

Therefore, in your opinion, what algorithm will solve all MIR problems? will musicians be replaced by robots? how can we compose differently music with an infinitely fast internet? In brief, assume that all problems that we currently investigate are solved in 10 years, what do we do next?

Here is an example submission from last year [pdf]. For all accepted papers from 2009, click here. To get a better flavor of the workshop, below are a couple of ideas:

  • How will the Microsoft Natal Project change user interfaces for music?
  • How will we mix music and videos for music analysis?
  • What algorithms work efficiently on 10 million songs?
  • How do we bring back automatic composition to ISMIR?
  • Can we describe music with a finite number of concepts?
  • Do we want robot conductors for orchestras?
  • What is beyond SVM and GMM for audio?
  • What is the digital library of the future?
  • How to mix social networks, music and smartphones?
  • How to create someone's own live theme music? [video]
  • Could a job interview include making a playlist?
  • Can we change the music genre of a given MP3?
