Austin Capitol

The Capitol in Austin, TX

In September 2004, I travelled to Austin, Texas to attend the wedding of one of my college friends. Luckily, there are good opportunities for climbing in the Austin area and I convinced my brother to join me for a few days of climbing before and after the wedding. We spent at least one day at each of the major areas and the climbs we completed are listed below. My brother took the photos on this page.

Main Dome Orange Peel Area
The Main Dome seen from the start of the Summit Trail. This  side of the Dome is very low angle the summit can be reached by easy hiking. The East Side of Echo Canyon where the routes Jack Knife and Cave Crack are found.

Prickly Pear Mark of the Beast
A stand of Prickly Pear Cactus, a common feature at  Enchanted Rock State Park. The view to the ground from the top of Mark of the Beast, a 3-pitch route (5.8) on the backside of the Main Dome.

Armadillo

An armadillo that we spotted close to the trail on the backside of the Main Dome at Enchanted Rock State Park. I was amazed by how fast this little guy could move.
