Pure magnetic confinement in a simple toroidal field:
- Daugherty et al. (1969), Clark et al. (1976), John et al. (1992-1993)
- Results have been somewhat discouraging, ?~100 ?s, presumably because of instabilities/neutral interactions.
Magnetic surfaces
- One existing experiment, Proto-RT (levitated current ring)
- Focus on injection through ergodic x-point region and MHD with strong rotation. Started operation in 1999
- One proposed (CNT stellarator, presented here)
- Theory of equilibrium and transport (to be published, presented here)
