The physics of positron-electron (pair) plasmas
- Of fundamental interest to basic plasma physics and fusion
- Instead of m+/m- ~ 1837 or larger, m+/m- = 1
- Should make theory and numerics a lot easier! Can we predict the behavior?
- Will turbulence and transport be similar to electron-ion plasmas?
- Drift wave instabilities are absent in e+e- plasma
- Gyroradius (isotope) scalings from theory and numerics are contradicted in experiments - ?1837 rather than ?3
- Nonlinear dynamics and saturation mechanisms may be completely different
- Of fundamental interest to astrophysics - pair plasmas are observed in:
- jets emanating from Active Galactive Nuclei and pulsars
- the center of our galaxy
- solar flares
