University of
Science & Technology of China (USTC) was established
in Beijing in September, 1958 under the presidential leadership
of Guo
Moruo. USTC is a new type of
university established by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)
after the founding of the New China.
- Department of Modern Mechanics at USTC was established in 1958. Dr. Tsien Hsue-shen was the first department chair. I was studying as an undergraduate student there from 1998 to 2003.
Columbia University in the City of New York, which is similar to USTC because of its size, has been my graduate school since 2003.
- The Mechanical Engineering Department at Columbia was established in 1897. It has enjoyed a national and international reputation for much of its history. My Ph.D. advisor is Prof. Jeffrey W. Kysar, a smart and considerable person who got his Ph.D. degree at Harvard University.
