G-Sharp Duo

Emilie-Anne Gendron, violin
Yelena Grinberg, piano

Founded in 2003, the G-Sharp Duo is a dynamic ensemble established by members, Emilie-Anne Gendron, violinist and Yelena Grinberg, pianist, when both were students in the Barnard-Columbia-Juilliard (BCJ) dual degree program. Over the past five years, they have garnered enthusiastic acclaim from New York's classical music scene for their highly expressive and thoughtful performances.

Infusing their interpretations with a keen musical intellect, Ms. Gendron and Ms. Grinberg are committed to presenting not only the hallmarks of violin-piano literature, but also non-standard and contemporary works. Recently, at Columbia’s Miller Theater, they gave the world premiere of Hiroya Miura's "Moon Petals" (2005), a composition dedicated to the duo and written in memory of the late composer and music theorist, Jonathan Kramer. The duo’s acclaimed first performance of this work was recently broadcast over New York Public Radio’s arts program Ear to Ear, hosted by David Garland.

In May of 2006, the G-Sharp Duo received First Prize in the duo category of the International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition, sponsored by the Chamber Music Foundation of New England. Their 2007-2008 concert season marked their New York Debut recital at the Merkin Hall, sponsored by Artists International Presentations, Inc., as well as recitals at BargeMusic, Miller Theatre, the Harvard Club of New York, Steinway Hall, Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall, the Bates College Concert Series, the chamber music series at St. Paul’s Church in Brookline, Massachusetts and a lecture-performance, “Musical Gestures in Franck’s Violin Sonata,” at New York University. In 2008, the G-Sharp Duo was awarded a chamber music residency at the Banff Centre in Canada, where they worked closely with such eminent artists as Barry Shiffman, Philip Setzer, Mark Steinberg, and Stephen Prutsman.

The 2008-2009 season will feature a variety of concert appearances and lecture-performances in venues such as Columbia University’s Music Department, The Harvard Club, Miller Theater, Arium, and the Roerich Museum.
