Join us to experiment, break things, and imagine new possibilities. Data Club meetings are meetings, not workshops. An introduction to a bit of software is followed by opportunities to try the software in your own environment and on your own terms.

We are starting the semester with an overview of starting a Python research project from scratch in 2026. We will learn about using UV to manage our dependencies, GCP to manage storage, and, time allowing, perhaps look to containerization for databases.

Topics covered: Python, UV, Git, Google Cloud Platform, Cloud Storage, Colima

Data Club meetings occur six times a semester. Open to everyone in the Columbia community, these informal events typically start with a presentation on a specific use of data in Python, R, Julia, or JavaScript, then open up to questions, collaborative work, and discussion. Computation typically occurs within an online notebook workflow, and participants of all skill levels are welcome.

Please bring a laptop!
