Established in 2016, the Dr. J. Thomas Bigger Lecture Series honors the legacy of pioneering cardiologist Dr. J. Thomas Bigger, whose work transformed the understanding and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and whose commitment to mentorship and rigorous clinical investigation continues to influence the field today. This year’s 10th anniversary lecture is part of the Irving Institute’s yearlong celebration recognizing 20 years of advancing clinical and translational science at Columbia.
This year’s lecture, “Transthyretin Cardiac Amyloidosis,” will feature distinguished cardiologist and physician-scientist Dr. Mathew S. Maurer, Arnold and Arlene Goldstein Professor of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. A longtime member of the Irving Institute community, Dr. Maurer will reflect on the role the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program played in his career development and scientific achievements. The lecture will also explore the evolution of TTR Cardiac Amyloidosis research through advances in diagnostics, awareness, and therapies, while highlighting future directions in the field.
As the Irving Institute commemorates this milestone anniversary year, members of the Columbia community are encouraged to join this special event celebrating advances in clinical and translational research and the enduring impact of the CTSA Program.
