Michael Clark Honored at ACS

Michael Clark, a Chemical Engineering graduate student and member of the Kumar Group, was awarded second place at the 2011 Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Graduate Student Award Symposium, part of the ACS National Meeting hosted in Denver Colorado.
Michael detailed a new theory of nanocrystal growth, in which engineering principles are applied successfully to an emerging nanomaterials field. The new theory permits future chemical research to precisely optimize nanocrystals for specific applications by tuning easily-controlled experimental parameters. Additionally, the theory also proved that two experimental quantities are strongly correlated in most experimental studies, indicating that our theoretical results would have been difficult or impossible to establish empirically and that this theory could be the foundation for a possible new paradigm of nanocrystal synthesis.
