Pizmon, the noted a cappella singing group from New York, wowed the community during their three day visit to the North Shore December 3-5. The group, composed of college students from Columbia University, Barnard College, and the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, conducted workshops for students at Cohen Hillel Academy during their visit and led a community Kabbalat Shabbat service at Temple Sinai on Dec. 3. On Dec. 4 they conducted an inspiring and upbeat Shabbat service for parents and junior congregation for children at Hillel. Hillel students read from the Torah during the service. Saturday evening, following a moving havdalah service Pizmon performed in a concert also held at the school.
Cohen Hillel's parent group, Hamishpacha, sponsored the weekend. "It was totally awesome!," remarked fourth and fifth grade students. "This was a real experience for students and adults alike. It was like being at camp. The spirit that these students brought to our community was unique. In addition, they are role models for all the children, but especially the junior high."
Deborah Nathan, co-chair of the weekend, added, "It was a great treat for the entire community. We all benefitted from these young adults who were filled with life, had beautiful voices, and a love for Judaism."
