On January 29, 2009 the American Physical Society designated Pupin Hall
and the Columbia Physics Department as a Historical Site, in
recognition of II Rabi and the discovery of magnetic resonance. The
designation is commemorated by the plaque mounted on the left hand side
of the north wall of the Pupin lobby.

the Physical Society and Executive Vice President David Hirsh received
it on behalf of the University. The American Physical Society was founded at Columbia in May 1899.
