| Professor Tony Heinz And Dr Phaedon Avouris awarded 2008 Julius Springer Prize in Applied Physics |

Tony F. Heinz, David M Rickey Professor in the Columbia Departments of
Electrical Engineering and of Physics
has been awarded the 2008 Julius Springer Prize in Applied Physics. Professor Heinz shares the prize with Dr. Phaedon Avouris of the IBM Watson Research Center for their pioneering work on the
electrical and optical properties of nanoscale carbon materials,including carbon nanotubes.
