Columbia Physics Graduate Student Seminars are held in Room 831 Pupin Hall at 10:30 a.m. every Friday during the Fall and Spring semesters unless otherwise announced. There are no regularly scheduled Graduate Student Seminars during the summer.

The purpose of the graduate seminar is to introduce first-year graduate students to ongoing research in the Physics Department and in related departments. For those that have not decided what field of research they would like to pursue, this is an excellent opportunity to sample the various research opportunities.

For those with more definite ideas about the research they would like to pursue, this gives them an opportunity to talk directly with the faculty, postdocs, and graduate students carrying out the research. Since first-year students are supported during the summer by working with a research group, this seminar lets them sample the type of research they might be involved in during the summer.
