Social science lost one of its giants with the death of Charles Tilly in April of this year. He died just weeks after receiving the Social Science Research Council's highest award, the Albert O. Hirschman Prize. In commemoration, the SSRC, in conjunction with Columbia University, has organized a special series of events in early October, consisting of the Hirschman Award Ceremony and a two-day conference (the latter includes a memorial). Time is allotted for informal gatherings and reminiscence.
