| The family and friends of
the late Associate Professor and CUSSW alumna Blanca Rosenberg '55 have
established a scholarship in honor of her commitment to the social work
profession. Professor Rosenberg, who retired from the School in 1984,
was a pioneer in the field of family practice. Her short-term treatment
models remain as current today as they were when she first developed them.
A beloved mentor to students and colleagues alike, her legacy at the School
remains constant. After leaving Columbia, Professor Rosenberg began
a new career as a writer, publishing a riveting account of her survival
of the Holocaust entitled, To Tell at Last.
Professor Rosenberg had a
special relationship with many social service organizations during her
lifetime, but she felt especially warmly toward the School of Social Work,
where she spent the majority of her academic career. In keeping with
her own particular experience as a refugee following World War II,
the Blanca Rosenberg Scholarship will be awarded to students with a professional
interest in aiding the victims of relocation and immigration traumas.
Dr. Rosenberg contributed much to both the School of Social Work and the
social work profession. It is inspiring to know that she continues
to do so even though she is no longer with us. |
