The
door, nijiriguchi, of Taian, is merely a weathered plank. Ironically, one
of the smallest existing teahouses has an usually large nijiriguchi. The
large door, 78.8cm by 71.5cm, allows the guest to crawl through to the
tearoom. Crawling through the door presents the guest as larger than they
are. The guest is also shocked at the image of the tokonoma directly in
front of them, and a large window directly above them.
