Me in the back yard, with the other houses in the subdivision in the
background; I think there were about 20 of them in all. The one under the
basketball net is where George Gilmer lived, who helped with these pages,
with his Dad (who served in the US Coast Guard during the war, on the
Murmansk run) and Mom and sister. To the east there were some older,
grander houses along Kirby Road towards the school; the west was all farms
and woods. Behind and in front of the subdivision were also woods (
see map). My Dad made the see-saw but the "gym set" was
a store-bought extravagance. Maybe my
grandmother
paid for it; she was a nurse and had a steady income.
