Chesterbrook school in the mid-1950s. The original one-room Chesterbrook
was a wooden structure built in 1906 on present-day Linwood Terrace, which
also served as a church. The school moved to its current location in 1926,
into the small brick building with large windows visible on the left, which
became seriously overcrowded with the post-WWII population boom. Two grades
per room, two shifts per day, with the space augmented by
three Quonset huts in back and sometimes
also the basement of the Methodist church. In 1953 the long "modernistic"
annex was added to handle the overflow.
