Ethylene Glycol Toxicity
Phase 1 (Minutes – 12 hours): CNS
- inebriation, nystagmus, paralysis, seizures and coma.
- Nausea and vomiting may also occur.
- Calcium oxalate crystals may be present in urine.
Phase 2 (12-24 hours ): Cardiopulmonary
- tachycardia and hypertension.
- anion gap metabolic acidosis with compensatory hyperventilation.
- HF and ARDS
Phase 3 (>24 hours): Renal
- acute tubular necrosis and renal failure.
- Oliguria, hematuria, and proteinuria.
