First Day: find your way around
From the EDS main page, find and read the document describing our facilites.
Get a set of keys for EDS
Check to see who signs your time sheet and what account to use.
Read the back of the time sheet page.
Check the pay cycle timetable about when to submit timesheets and when to
expect a pay cheque.
In EDS space find the following and get an explanation of when to use it:
- staff office work stations
- public workstations
- staff machine
- census machine
- CD-ROM/DVD storage
- EDS server
- office supplies
- reference books
- code books
- small code books
- log in sheet
- do we have wireless?
- are extra jacks and ethernet cables for plug-in users?
- bulletin board notice of emergency procedures (read) it
- find the plastic sheeting
- find the two closest fire exits (patrons may need your direction in and emergency)
In your first few day learn about:
- Staff email lists, confirm you are getting mail.
- staff page, and on the staff page read over:
- Routine staff procedures
- Emergency phone list, give you phone number to a full time staff person to add
- Training Manual at http://www.columbia.edu/acis/eds/work-staff/training/(being developed)
- EDS bulletin board, understand how it is used and know that you can look messages there that patrons might reference.
- Run schedi
- Have Jane get you a Remedy password
- Learn how the sign in sheet is used
- Observe the person tracking on a couple of days
