STUDENT BIOGRAPHY
Yu-Shan Hsiao
Graduate Student
My hometown is Taipei City in Taiwan. I got my B.S. in Chemistry at Chung Yuan Christian University in 1999. Then, I graduated from National Chiao Tung University with a M.S. in Biological Sciences and Technology in 2001. My M.S. thesis is about how specific amino acid residues could convert the nucleotide specificity of phenol sulfotransferase (PST) from 3’ phosphoadenosine 5’-phospahte (PAP) to adenosine 5’-monophosphate (AMP). After school, I worked as a research assistant in the Institute of Molecular Biology of Academia Sinica, Taiwan. I used site-directed muatagenesis to explore the molecular mechanism of Toc34 (the translocon at the outer membrane of chloroplast) through crystallographic studies. I am interested in studying protein function and mechanism by crystallography. My future plan is to continue to be a researcher. I really like to work in labs!

When I am not in lab, I like watching movies, reading novels, eating, shopping, swimming, traveling and enjoying life!!
