Hey all,
Classes are over, many of us are no longer in
NYC and we’re all ready to have a (relatively) stress free
summer. But, that isn’t going to stop me from dropping a message into
your mailbox welcoming you to the newly formed Underground
Columbia Class of ’08 Council email.
As many of you know, our class recently
elected me, Isaac Silverman,
and my hardworking, gifted and beautiful
counterpart, Neda Navab, as
the president and vice-president of our
class. We are honored that
we have been given the opportunity to serve
you in this coming
year. There were many intelligent and capable
people involved in
the election and several of them have chosen
to use their passion
for Columbia to become an active part of next
year’s student
council.
I cannot tell you how incredibly pleased we
are with the many people
who have already applied for council
positions. We have some of
Columbia’s brightest and most dedicated
students working to improve
what is already an incredible school. We will
all be working hard
over the coming months to make sure that the
energy and enthusiasm
continues into making our sophomore year one
that is both memorable
and exciting.
Next year's council (whose members’ names are
listed at the bottom
of this email) is planning to get the ball
rolling fast. Over this
summer, we would like to get started on
making some class T-shirts.
You’re probably all better drawers than I am
(though I won’t speak
for my talented co-leader, Neda) so, in order
to do that, we would
like your design submissions. Please send
them to the council alias
at [email protected]. Because it’s a long
summer, the deadline is
June 30: meaning you have plenty of time to
put together a design.
You may submit as many designs as you would
like (and do submit a
few), but they all must be Class of 2008
specific.
We are greatly anticipating an awesome next
year. Over our sophomore
year, we would like to see class unity grow
and so we will be
organizing a number of events. To give you
all a preview of our
first major class event: Our Director of
Campus Events, Tom
Sansani, is in the process of setting up a
Lerner lock-in (or
perhaps Low Lawn campout) for the first week
of school.
If you would like to get involved in council,
we would be happy to
consider anyone who is interested as a
potential council member. If
you are interested in joining the council,
please reply to this
email and I will send you a short application
which you should send
completed to [email protected] by June 15.
If you do not have the
time in your schedule to become a member of
council, have no fear.
Your voice will most certainly still be
heard. This next year will
be one defined by student involvement. We
want you to help us to do
our job by emailing us at any point with your
suggestions. After
all, if you never speak up, how can you
expect a change?
Well, I suppose I’ve dragged this on for a
bit long. However, I hope
it has made some of you as enthusiastic about
next year as I am. I’m
looking forward to seeing everyone again in
September. Have a
fantastic summer. Once again, remember to
email us if you have any
suggestions or comments so that we may begin
working on them over
the summer. And submit t-shirt designs!
Cheers,
Isaac Silverman
