Lots going on: Casino Night is here, more Urban '08, Columbia is playing Duke, the West End is back, and, oh yes, Michelle Diamond turned 21!

It's already November and the semester is flying by, so read up on what's going on and go out this week!

1. CASINO NIGHT
THURSDAY Nov. 9 (tomorrow!)
8-12pm: Lerner Auditorium

Can't play casino games because Vegas is too far away, Atlantic City is in New Jersey, and the government took away PartyPoker.net?  Then join us THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. to see Lerner Auditorium transformed into a casino to which The Palms, Bellagio, and MGM Grand can't even compare!  Enjoy tons of casino games (like Texas Hold'em) with great prizes like a FLAT PANEL LCD TV, an iPOD NANO, and JBL SPEAKERS at the biggest event of the semester!

The event features food and desserts from several local vendors, as well as special hors d'oeuvres made by the Culinary Society.  The event also features the music of DeathMask, a magician, and a caricature artist.  The first 150 people in attendance will receive a special gift.  2 IDs to drink.  Keep the dress classy.

2. URBAN 08: CCSC08's Version of MTV Cribs
FRIDAY Nov. 17th
1-4pm

Join us for a private tour of Mayor Bloomberg's home, Gracie Mansion, where we will check out the rooms, the art, and the courtyards. An informal reception will follow the tour.

Our host for this event is Peter Gruenberger CC '58.  Transportation and tour fee will be provided by Student and Alumni Programs.

5. Come Celebrate the official return of The West End!
MONDAY Nov. 13th

Our old friend is back!

On Monday night, Columbia University Big Band under the direction of Grammy Award-winner Don Sickler and the Columbia Jazz Ensemble under Ben Waltzer, will give a free 2 and a half hour concert at the West End to commemorate it's official reopening ceremonies.  Come join in a rare event hearkening back to the old days of late-night jam sessions and the fantastic Upper West Side atmosphere.

6. Student-Young Alumni Dinner Series with Doug Imbruce CC'05, CEO,
Executive Producer
MONDAY Nov. 13

Enjoy a casual dinner and conversation with Doug Imbruce CC'05.  While a junior at Columbia majoring in English and Comparative Literature, Doug founded theU.com, a website chock-full of information about colleges provided by the students enrolled in them.  His first venture on the web was 
buyroad.com,  a web-based small business services company he co-founded.

Doug's entertainment industry experience includes positions at Warner Brothers Television and Comedy Central.  His first film, "Killing Nana," was awarded the chairman's prize at the 2002 Ivy Film Festival and received a four-star review from Film Threat Magazine.  He has been featured in Vanity Fair, The New York Times, Forbes, MSNBC, and CNN, among others.

7. Legally Speaking
WEDNESDAY Nov. 29

Back by popular demand!  This annual event, co-sponsored by Student and Alumni Programs, Columbia's Pre-Law Society and the Office of Preprofessional Advising, features both College and SEAS alumni who are practicing law today.  The panel format, with Q and A to follow, lends itself to this lively exchange between alumni and students.  A reception follows the program.

Women, the business world is changing…be part of it! Register for the 2006 Career Lab hosted by the Forté Foundation -- a fabulous opportunity for women who are considering or committed to a career in business. Hear firsthand from leading business women who are paving exciting new roads to success. The Career Lab will be held on November 13th on the Columbia campus and is open to all undergraduates in the NY area. (The Forté Foundation is a non-profit organization working to increase the number of women business leaders.) Pizza and ice-cream will be served!!!
