Hi all!
I hope everyone had a WONDERFUL weekend.
We have a really exciting
week coming up so, although it's a bit
longer than usually (sorry
about that, I just didn't have the heart
to cut any of these events
out), definitely skim through to the
bottom of this e-mail and check
out all the awesome things we have coming
up (i.e. free music, free
food, shiny stones, more free food, etc).
One quick thing I'd like to highlight out
of the mass of this week's
awesomeness: Ruckus, a program that let's
you download FREE and LEGAL
music. See below for details.
Have a great week and I hope to see you at
Glass House Rocks on Thursday!!
All the best,
Michelle

1. RUCKUS
Want to download FREE and LEGAL music?
All you have to do is go to
www.ruckus.com
and use your Columbia e-mail address to
log in and then
you're all set! We're currently working
with Ruckus to make Columbia
an official partner so you'll be able to
download MOVIES for free
starting in March. One caveat: Ruckus
does not work on Macs unless
you have the new MacBook and can also run
Windows. If you have any
questions about Ruckus, email Michelle
[email protected]
or check
out the Spec article:

2. Glass House Rocks February 1st!
The four-council student event that
transformed Lerner into the
hottest student party of the year is back
for its third year on
Thursday, February 1st! Come for great
performances, Texas Hold 'em,
live Jazz, a hot hip-hop party, lots of
free food, t-shirt give-aways,
and so much more!!
*******************************************
3. Josten's Class Rings
Start getting excited because class rings
are here! Come check out
what Jostens has to offer on Tuesday
(1/30) and Wednesday (1/31) from

Don't miss out on having a
great college memento!

4. Dinner with Columbia College Alumni at
Havana Central on Friday, February 9
Join College alumni in the classes of
'57-'60 and '84-'85 at the new
Havana Central at the West End for a free
pre-game buffet. Then head
over to Levien Gymnasium for the annual
Jones vs. Jones ( i.e.
Columbia vs. Yale) game. Watch Coach Joe
Jones and the Columbia Lions
take on Coach James Jones and the Yale
Bulldogs. This is one event you
won't want to miss! Friday, February
9th. Burgers and more at
Havana Central, 5:30 PM until 6:45 PM.
Tip-off for Columbia vs. Yale
7:00 PM. To rsvp for this event, Click

5. On March 23-24, 2007, the core
lecturers in Contemporary
Civilization and Literature Humanities
will sponsor a conference
entitled "Core Curricula in the 21st
Century." In conjunction, the
student representatives on the Committee
on the Core Curriculum are
organizing a student panel. It is an
opportunity for students to
contribute significantly and meaningfully
to the discourse on the
core curriculum not only on campus, but
across American
universities. We are looking for a group
of students engaged and
diverse in opinion to take part.
If you are interested, please contact
[email protected]

6. Major Mentor Event
FRIDAY, Feb. 2
1 - 3pm: Lerner 555
Come speak with Sophomores and share your
Junior wisdom. Help them
pick majors, avoid certain professors, and
get into the best classes.
If you are interested in stopping by,
getting food, and talking with
the Sophs, please email Dean Gaynor ASAP
at
[email protected].

7. IT'S THANK-A-THON TIME
Tuesday, February 13th. Join friends and
classmates in 407 Lerner for
a few minutes between the hours of 6:00 PM
and 10:00 PM to thank
alumni for their generous support.
Without alumni contributions, a
Columbia education would be virtually
unaffordable. We'll provide the
telephones and pizza and snacks to keep
you going. Be part of this
annual event!

8. Run for Student Council
Do you have great ideas on how to make
Columbia a better place? Would
you want to bring those ideas to life?
Then join the Columbia College
Student Council! Elections are quickly
approaching, and we want YOU to
run. In addition, if you choose to run,
CCSC will now help finance
your campaign.
What should I do? Come to any one of the
following three information sessions:
Wednesday, February 7th at 10pm
Sunday, Feburary 11th at 9pm
Tuesday, February 13th at 10pm
There, you will find out more about what
it takes to be on CCSC, and
how you can run. After attending this
meeting, you may submit your
candidate and party identification forms
anytime between February 10th
to February 19th. Forms and an elections
calendar are now available at
www.columbia.edu/cu/ccsc/elections.
If you have ANY questions or would like
additional information, please
feel free to contact the Columbia College
Elections Board at
[email protected]
