Dear Seniors,
So what exactly happens after May 21, 2008? More specifically, where will you be after May 21? Where are you spending the summer? The next year? Wherever the post-Commencement days take us, Columbia College Today (the magazine that is usually jammed into your Lerner box) exists to keep us all connected. If you have ever flipped to the back of the magazine, you know what "Class Notes" are: a section designed for classmates to keep in touch, send updates about their lives, and photos of interesting experiences. The Class of 2008 will make its first appearance in the May issue of CCT, and I want notes from you. Read #3 below for more details.
Also....CHOCOLATE FOUNTAINS! All CC Seniors are invited to marvel at the miracle of chocolate fondue (brought to you by the Senior Fund) tonight, EC 2nd floor lounge, at 9pm. This is an event you do not want to miss.
Lastly, Winter Gala tickets are on sale! Tickets are limited, so get yours today.
Happy Wednesday!
Best,
Neda

3. Columbia College Today: Class Correspondence
This is one of the best programs that Columbia runs. Hands down. Class Notes allow the alumni of the Class of 2008 (that's us in less than three months) to stay in touch, no matter how much time or distance separates us. The May issue will be the first time our class is featured, and I want to hear from you (as I'm sure the rest of the class does).
This program is as interesting and successful as you all make it, so please email me at nnavab@gmail.com with ANYTHING that you would like to include in the magazine. It could be a few lines about your summer plans, updates on what city or country you will be moving to, wedding announcements (though really, I'm not sure if I'm ready to read these), or just a message you would like to send out to the class about graduation. Please email me by this Sunday, March 2nd.

4. Class Rings
They will be in the bookstore February 28th and 29th, and March 3rd (Thursday, Friday, Monday), from 12pm - 6pm. Get one!

5. GradZone
Seniors, visit the following link before March 3 to cast your votes for the Alumni, Rolker, and Brainard prizes.
http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/events/gradzone/prize_cc.php
You will have a chance to vote for the finalists later in the process, and all three prizes will be awarded at Class Day. If you have questions about the process or otherwise, email gradzone@columbia.edu.
Also, if you did not receive the first of several emails from GradZone this week with important graduation information, please email gradzone@columbia.edu.

6. The Language of God: A Believer Looks at the Human Genome
Francis CollinsDirector, The Human Genome Project
Thursday, February 28th, 6:00-7:30pmRSVP
South Hall,RiversideChurch,91 Claremont Ave.Directions
Enter through revolving door between 120th and 122nd Streets
Are science and faith locked in an unavoidable battle of worldviews? Must one win and the other lose? No, says Francis Collins, a physician-geneticist who led the Human Genome Project in its historic program to read out all of the letters of the human DNA instruction book. Faith is one way of knowing; science is another. Both aim to reveal truth, but each answers different kinds of questions. Science tells us how; faith tells us why.
This seminar is cosponsored byColumbia's Office of the University Chaplain,
and the Columbia University Chapter of the American Medical Students Association
Please note:Advance registration is required for all seminars.

7. Go Style! Hip Hop and Identity on Both Sides of the Pacific
A lecture and discussion with Ryan Takemiya, hosted by AAA
Wednesday, February 27th, at 8.30pm
Lerner Broadway Room
Join AAA for a multimedia presentation and workshop with Ryan Takemiya on Hip Hop and the Asian American identity.
After 24 years of reinvention, Asian Hip Hop has become something raw, real, and completely different from any other Hip Hop you've heard. It has created a new cultural atmosphere that is not only affecting music, but like in the US, is affecting all levels of society.
Ryan Takemiya asks, if this is what Asian kids are doing for themselves, what are Asian American kids doing for their own identity? Can we, as a community, use Hip Hop - and pop culture in general - to move forward and create and express our own identity?
