Laurent Alfred

A native of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands, Laurent Alfred holds degrees in political science from Harvard University (BA, 1996) and law from Yale University (J.D. 2003). While in law school, he focused his coursework and summer internships on the areas of human rights and criminal justice. Laurent has significant experience with criminal justice-related youth and arts-based organizing campaigns, including the organization of a national spoken word and music tour – “The Lyrics on Lockdown Tour” – designed to raise awareness about the Prison Industrial Complex. In addition to coordinating ACJP, he serves as an adjunct professor at Columbia University, teaching a graduate seminar on the role of arts in social justice movements.
